Indiana – IN

Indiana has a relatively moderate climate and terrain, which also results in relatively moderate pest control problems. Though there aren’t many extremely severe pest problems, households are certainly not pest free. Most of the pests found in Indiana are also common through the region and the United States. As always, the more you know about the pests you might face, the better prepared you will be to protect your home against these intruders.

Indiana homeowners are no stranger to cockroaches. In this state, several different species of cockroaches can be found. Just to name a few, the German, American, and Oriental cockroach are all common in Indiana. The German cockroach is most often found near sources of food. You may see these pests appear more often in the kitchen, especially if crumbs are to be found. Both the German and American cockroach are brownish-red in color, and the main distinction between them is that the American cockroach is much larger. The Oriental cockroach is dark brown and can fly. The Oriental and American cockroach prefer damp areas such as basements or bathrooms. Regardless of the species, no one wants cockroaches in their home, which is why EcoLiving Pest experts will help you prevent and treat these nuisances.

When it comes to pest damage, there are two species to pay careful attention to in Indiana; termites and beetles. Most people are aware of the damage caused by termites. Subterranean termites are common in Indiana and feed on wood cellulose, which is in the interior part of a wooden structure. This is especially problematic because the damage is inside the wood and cannot be easily seen. Often, by the time termites are discovered they have already done thousands of dollars in damage. Wooden foundation under your house, floorboards, and trim are all commonly attacked by these termites. Identifying termites can also be difficult because they look very similar to some ant species. Unfortunately, EcoLiving does not handle termite work at this time.

The other culprit is the powder post beetle. These pests can cause almost as much damage as termites. It is the larvae that cause the most problems as they tunnel their way through your wood. Like termites, the damage often goes unseen from the outside and the only visible markings are small holes left when the adult beetles tunnel their way out of the wood. Both subterranean termites and powder post beetles can cause thousands of dollars worth of damage to your home. EcoLiving Pest Solutions can help you prevent them before a major problem occurs.

The boxelder bug is another very well known pest in Indiana. As expected from their name, these bugs primarily feed on the seeds of the boxelder tree. However, they can also be found on many other types of plants. Though these bugs start out as an outdoor problem, in the fall and winter, they often move inside to escape the cold temperatures. Boxelder bugs also feed on other insects, and a noticeable presence of them in your home could indicate other household insect problems. It’s no secret that any bugs inside your home are considered a nuisance, but the boxelder bug is harmless.

Other common pests in Indiana include the carpenter ant, clothes moths, silverfish and ticks. No matter what kind of pest problem you are facing, EcoLiving has safe, effective services to keep your home happy and pest free.
